Dosbarth Tri Update! What a busy couple of weeks we’ve had in class as we prepare for our Christmas Enterprise! We began by exploring the fascinating history of LEGO and designing our own LEGO Minifigures to use in story writing. Everyone has loved learning about LEGO, and we’re excited to continue this theme in the coming weeks.
For our Christmas Enterprise, we’ve teamed up with Year 2 and organised ourselves into three fantastic groups: The Gingerbread Team, Elf Crew, and The Mince Pies! Within these teams, we’ve been researching costs and pricing to make sure we can achieve a good profit. We’ve also been collecting data and presenting it in block graphs—real-life maths in action! We can’t wait to showcase our products soon. A big thank you for sending in the baked bean tins—diolch!
It was wonderful to share what we have learnt during our PBuzz music session, and we really appreciate your support. In Expressive Arts, we’ve been inspired by Mrs Maguire’s mum’s artwork and card designs, developing our skills in dotting and cross-hatching. It’s going to be a busy few weeks ahead, but full of creativity and fun!

Shwmae pawb! I hope everyone is safe after the terrible events of the weekend. It has been so heart-warming to see such community spirit in Monmouth and the resilience shown by so many. It’s been a busy few weeks, in Dosbarth Tri! In Literacy, we have started our new class text The Boy Who Grew Dragons. We began by predicting what the book might be about by looking at the front cover and writing a build-up to a character description. In Mathematics, we have been testing out our doubling knowledge using the Double Diamond method. We’ve also explored halving numbers and multiplication practically with arrays. As part of our Rights Respecting Schools work, we learnt about the right to be safe (Article 19) and discussed how this links to Anti-Bullying Week. We also celebrated Pudsey Day on a very wet Friday with a fun Just Dance session in the hall – the children absolutely loved it! Then, on Monday, we completed our 25k challenge – we are super-fit runners! With Christmas fast approaching, we have started planning our Christmas Enterprise ideas… watch this space! In Humanities, we are beginning to look at toys from the past and how they differ from those in the present. This week, we also completed a DCF Common Sense lesson where we discussed device-free moments and created a list of rules for using devices at home.
Thank you for your continued support! Diolch yn fawr am eich cefnogaeth!

Welcome back! I hope you all had a lovely half-term break. The children were extremely busy during the last two weeks of last term. They designed amazing leaflets about Trellech, which Mrs Peacock kindly judged! They also wrote some wonderful acrostic poems about their names, which really showcased their different personalities and included alliteration, similes, and rhyme. In maths, the children applied their place value knowledge to column addition and subtraction, including carrying over too. We continued with our artwork by sketching self-portraits and applying watercolours. The class has now learnt two rights: Article 28 – the right to an education and Article 15 – the right to make friends and join clubs. The children discussed what education and going to school mean to them, shared which clubs they currently take part in, and even imagined what their dream club would be! During our PBuzz sessions, we have been learning songs by artists such as George Ezra and Queen. We also enjoyed a fantastic Forest School session, where we applied our measuring skills and worked together collaboratively.

It has been a wonderfully busy few weeks in Dosbarth Tri, and the children have achieved so much across all areas of learning. In Literacy, we have been exploring emotional literacy through the book Ruby's Worry by Tom Percival. The children engaged deeply with the story, retelling it in their own words before using their imaginations to design unique worry creatures and write their own creative stories around them. In Numeracy and Mathematics, the focus has been on data collection, estimation, and measurement as part of an exciting enquiry: Who has the longest arms in the class? The children loved comparing their findings and using their measuring skills in a practical, hands-on way. We’ve also been lucky to take part in a special Daily Mile event, where we welcomed Cath Bingham from RunWales to see our mile in action. She was so impressed with our commitment to health and wellbeing and will be showcasing our efforts to other schools and at the next awards—what an honour! Our weekly sessions with Gwent Music have also been a highlight, where the children have thoroughly enjoyed learning to play the PBuzz—it’s been noisy, fun, and full of rhythm! We’ve also taken part in Show Racism the Red Card by wearing red and engaging in meaningful discussions around equality, respect, and challenging discrimination. Additionally, we have been exploring two important UNICEF Rights of the Child articles: the right to an education and the right to meet with friends and join clubs. These articles have sparked thoughtful conversations and helped us understand the importance of rights, friendship, and belonging. Da iawn, Dosbarth Tri—what a fantastic and productive term it’s been!

Dosbarth Tri have had a busy and exciting start to the term! Over the past two weeks, the children have been working hard to settle into new routines and revisit our class charter, reminding ourselves of the values we share as a class community. In literacy, we've been writing instructions on how to be a "bucket filler"—encouraging kindness and positivity—and this week, we’ve enjoyed reading Perfectly Norman, a wonderful story that celebrates being yourself. In maths, we've been exploring partitioning and challenging ourselves to apply our skills in new ways. We've also been diving into our family trees as part of our topic work, asking big questions like “Where do we get our eye colour from?” while learning about genetics. In RVE, we have been learning about the importance of harvest to Christians and thinking about how we can share with others in our own lives. In DCF, the children have been developing their understanding of digital footprints and learning how to stay safe online. A fantastic start to the year—da iawn, Dosbarth Tri!

Croeso! A very warm welcome back to the new academic year from Dosbarth Tri! This week, the children have had a fantastic start, settling in beautifully and exploring their new classroom with excitement. Together, they created and signed our class charter, setting the tone for a positive and respectful year ahead. Our class text this week has been ‘Have You Filled Your Bucket Today?’ by Carol McCloud. The children have enjoyed discussing how to be a bucket filler—someone who spreads kindness and positivity. They’ve written thoughtful lists on how to fill someone’s bucket, and their next step will be to write clear instructions. Our topic this term is ‘I Am the One and Only!’ The children have loved sharing interesting facts about themselves and learning about what makes us all unique. As part of this, we've been exploring the importance of names and are getting creative by designing canvas acrylic artwork featuring our initials—watch this space for the finished pieces! To top it all off, the children have completed their entries for the Usk Show—we’re so proud of their efforts. It's been a lovely first week full of creativity, collaboration, and kindness. Da iawn, Dosbarth Tri! Mrs Maguire.
